The Nine Arch Bridge, also called the Bridge in the Sky, is a viaduct bridge in Sri Lanka. It is one of the best examples of colonial-era railway construction in the country. The surrounding area has seen a steady increase of tourism due to the bridge's architectural ingenuity and the profuse greenery in the nearby hillsides.
This waterfall measures approximately 25 m (82 ft) in height and cascades from an oval-shaped concave rock outcrop. During the local wet season, the waterfall turns into what is said to resemble an areca flower with withering petals. But this is not the case in the dry season, where the flow of water reduces dramatically. The falls form part of the Ravana Ella Wildlife Sanctuary, and is located 6 km (3.7 mi) away from the local railway station at Ella.
The Ruwanweli Maha Seya, also known as the Mahathupa (the Great Thupa) is a prominent Buddhist stupa (a hemispherical structure containing relics) situated in the ancient historic city of Anuradhapura. Two quarts of the Buddha's relics are enshrined in the stupa, making it the largest collection of his relics anywhere. It was built by Sri Lankan king Sinhalese King Dutugemunu in c. 140 B.C. This stupa is one of the world’s tallest ancient structures standing at a height of approximately 103 m and with a circumference of 290 m.
The Jetavanarama stupa or Jetavanaramaya is a stupa, or Buddhist reliquary monument, located in the ruins of Jetavana monastery in the UNESCO world heritage city of Anuradhapura. At 122 metres (400 ft), and was the world's tallest stupa; and the third tallest structure in the world when it was built by King Mahasena of Anuradhapura (273–301). It is one of the eight sacred places in Sri Lanka.
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic; commonly known as the Glorious Tooth Temple, is a Buddhist temple in Kandy. It is located in the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy, which houses the relic of the tooth of the Buddha. Since ancient times, the relic has played an important role in local politics because it is believed that whoever holds the relic holds the governance of the country. The relic was historically held by Sinhalese kings. The temple of the tooth is a World Heritage Site mainly due to the temple and the relic.
Nallur Kandaswamy Kovil is a significant Hindu temple, located in Jaffna district, part of Nallur norther region. The temple was originally founded in 948 AD. However, due to invasion of foreigners, the temple had to be relocated several times in different places within Nallur area. The current temple was constructed in 1749 A.D.
